When I was 16, in 1936, I owned a 1929 Durant~Model 666. It was my first car which led me many years later to looking for another Durant. This 1931 Durant was bought in June of 1965, when I was 45. I purchased the car from a man that lived in Detroit, Michigan. He was a young doctor that was called away to the service. He didn't have a place to store it while he was gone. At that time the young man had belonged to the Durant Club. I didn't start the restoration until until 1975. I worked on the car throughout the year using my five weeks vacation and all the weekends I had time. It took me one year to finish. The first time I took it out to show was in June of 1976 in a Logansport, Indiana Parade.

It came from the factory with cigarette lighters in the front and rear, a pull string wind-up clock inside the review mirror, roll up windshield for ventilation, foot rest attached to the back seat, dual side mounts that use the ignition key, 4 wheel steeldrahlic brakes that still work great, and automatic thermostat controlled radiator shutters. I painted the car the original color of mulberry maroon and black. The first time I painted it, I realized that the paint had dust settling on it and resanded it down to repaint it all over again.

The original factory luggage rack was replaced in 1978 with a Durant car trunk that I found from a dealer in Ohio.
